Environmental credentials rated by consumers in their shower choice

Research conducted by Deva, lists 'environmental credentials' at the top of consumers list when selecting a new shower.

In Deva's research of more than 4,000 consumers, when asked what influenced choosing a new shower 45% chose 'environmental influences' to be most important over its 'look' with 36%, followed by the 'price' of the shower at 17%. Only 2% of those surveyed were unsure which aspect of a new shower purchase was most important.

The Deva sales and marketing manager Claire Stokes, commented that, "The findings of our research represent a real shift in consumer psyche. Just a couple of years ago consumers were wary of eco showers, believing the performance to be inferior to that of a conventional shower and environmental credentials were somewhat further down the wish list."

Protection from Scalding

Existing bath and shower installations should be upgraded to provide protection from scalding hot water.

The British Burns Association recommends 37 to 37.5 degrees C as a comfortable bathing temperature for children. In premises covered by the Care Standards Act 2000, the maximum water outlet temperature is 43 degrees C.

All existing bath and shower installations in public, residential and commercial premises should be upgraded to provide the same protection from injurious scalding hot water as is now necessary in new homes, says Honeywell. This is easy to achieve by fitting fail safe thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) in the supplies to hot water outlets.

A bathroom face lift will make your home feel new again

The bathroom, as one of the best places to be alone in your home, should be your own private sanctuary. With today’s economic constraints, home owners are finding it more difficult to sell and looking towards investing in the home instead. Relatively minor changes such as remodelling a bathroom or kitchen or adding on a room can significantly increase your property value. And if you’re feeling stuck in your present living situation, perhaps a bathroom face lift is exactly what you need to make your home feel new again.

Bathrooms are becoming ever more luxurious, with the latest trends aimed at creating a more spa-like environment in the bathroom. With the stress of today’s economy, it makes perfect sense to turn your bathroom into a relaxing oasis from the pressures of everyday life. From heated floor tiles and warming drawers to steam showers, separate toilets, and LED lighting, today’s bathroom is all about comfort.

An Organised Bathroom

If you're lucky enough to have a "guest bathroom", one that isn't used by the family and one where you can always keep clean hand towels hanging for the guests, good for you. For most of us however, we have one or two bathrooms, and they both get a lot of use from the family members on a daily basis. Let's see how you can organize your bathroom so that it's guest ready too.

The one thing that most of us have too much of is lots of bottles of "stuff" sitting around the sink and countertop. Go through these and discard what you don't use on a daily basis, and what only has a drip left in it. Go buy two decorative baskets and have a "his" and "hers". One for his stuff, and one for her stuff. You could keep your toothpaste, hairspray, brush and comb, moisturizer, etc., in a basket that can be simply picked up and moved when guests come, and then put back when you're ready to use them again.

Never underestimate your Bathroom

The bathroom’s importance should never be underestimated according to TV’s interior design duo Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan: “in fact it’s often in this smallest room that you can make the biggest impact. So what, precisely, makes it so important? Well, succinctly, a great bathroom won’t only enhance your quality of life; it’ll also bolster the saleability of your property. As such it’s absolutely crucial that you get it right. No longer just a place to ‘wash and go’, we now need our bathrooms to provide sanctuary from the stresses and strains of the outside world. Think about it - it’s your most personal space, a ‘home spa’ of purity, relaxation and refreshment so you owe it to yourself to get it right!
